Welcome to Safe Kids Oregon!

Car Seat Resources

Did you know that as many as 95% of car seats are found to be installed incorrectly? Making sure that your child’s car seat is the correct size and is installed correctly can be life-saving in the event of an accident.

Although COVID-19 has had an impact on the availability of car seat distributions and car seat checks, there are still services being provided at this time. See the car seat safety programs outlined below for more information and to get connected.

OHSU Safety Center Car Seat Program

The Car Seat Program at the OHSU Safety Center can support families in a variety of ways. The certified safety technicians can help you:

  • Find affordable car seats in your area.
  • Make sure your child is in the right type of car seat.
  • Make sure your child’s car seat is installed and used correctly.

The Car Seat Program is free and open to all families across Oregon. They are currently hosting virtual and in-person appointments with safety measures. Call 503-494-3735 to make an appointment or email safety@ohsu.edu

The program also offers car seat safety check events at a number of locations in the Portland Metro area, although many have been cancelled due to COVID-19.

See the OHSU Safety Center website for more information about available services.

Child Passenger Safety & Injury Prevention

Oregon Impact Child Passenger Safety

Oregon Impact works to make sure that children are riding safely on roadways. In their program for Child Passenger Safety, they educate parents about car seat checks, such as what to expect during a seat check and what to bring, and they also maintain a listing of all the car seat check events and service providers across Oregon.

Many car seat checks are currently cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, there are some that are being held virtually or in-person with safety measures. See the Child Passenger Safety page on their website for all listings.

Their program can also connect families who need it with low-cost car seats.

To contact their program, call the best number for your area from those listed on their website, or send an email to OregonCarSeatSafety@gmail.com
